WMF was officially founded in 1980 and is the only umbrella organization of minigolf associations worldwide with continental associations on all five continents. The World Minigolf Sport Federation is also a member of GAISF (Global Association of International Sports Federations) and AIMS (Alliance of Independent Recognized Members of Sport), which represents 64 national federations as members and more than 40,000 registered players worldwide.
The members of the WMF organize over 1,500 tournaments every year. World Championships, World Youth Championships, World Championships for the Deaf, Continental Championships for the Youth and General Class every two years and every year the World Adventure Golf Masters. Minigolf is not just a high-level sport, but a global sports movement that unites generations. It is a very popular family and recreational sport that is played by millions of people around the world. WMF takes its social responsibility very seriously and also supports programs for disabled people, crime prevention, peace promotion and a better sustainable life.
Activities 2019: Among the major highlights were the World Championships in Zhouzhuang (China) as the first mini golf World Cup in Asia, the Mini Golf World Championship for the Deaf in Bamberg (Germany) and the World Adventure Golf Masters in Kungälv (Sweden). Last but not least the WMF International Minigolf Speed Championships during the CSIT World Sports Games 2019 in Tortosa (Spain) with speed minigolf as a new spectacular and media-friendly format in three speed disciplines.
Highlights 2020 : As in many other sports, unfortunately several championships had to be cancelled or postponed until next year, also due to the Corona Pandemic: the World Youth Championships in Murnau (Germany), five Continental Championships in Voitsberg (Austria), Hamilton (New Zealand), Accra (Ghana), Chiangmai (Thailand) and North Myrtle Beach (USA) as well as the World Senior Championships in Wanne-Eickel (Germany), the World Adventure Golf Masters in Gumpoldskirchen (Austria) and the European Champions League Final in Portel (Portugal).
Forecast 2021: The World Federation of Minigolf has re-scheduled the postponed events from 2020 and is very much looking forward to the second edition of the WMF International Minigolf Speed Championships during the CSIT World Sports Games 2021 in Emilia Romagna (Italy) again with three speed disciplines. All amateurs from the various other participating federations are of course invited to participate in a special promotion event for amateurs.
