GAISF elects Ivo Ferriani as new President

Ferriani succeeds Raffaele Chiulli and will steer the fortunes of GAISF for the next two years

The GAISF General Assembly (Global Association of International Sports Federations) has elected Ivo Ferriani, representing AIOWF (Association of International Olympic Winter Sports Federations), as its new President. CSIT President Bruno Molea, who has been a member of the GAISF Council since mid-November, is looking forward to a good upcoming cooperation with the new President. At the same time, CSIT thanks the outgoing President Raffaele Chiulli for the good co-operation so far and wishes him all the best in his functions.

Ivo Ferriani takes office as President with immediate effect and will serve a two-year mandate in accordance with the GAISF Statutes and the rotation principle of stakeholders, where nominations are made by the Association of International Winter Olympic Federations (AIOWF). In a first statement, the new President clearly presented his goals and vision.

"I am very honoured to have been elected President of GAISF. The COVID-19 pandemic has really shown that sport is a force for good. I am therefore proud to have the opportunity to work with the global sport community to promote the power of sport and achieve our common goal of a better world through sport. I am very much looking forward to putting my sporting experience at the service of all GAISF Members, Associate Members and Observers and supporting them over the next two years."

Mr Ferriani brings a wealth of experience in sports administration, having been President of the AIOWF since 2020 and President of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation since 2010. He has also been a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board since 2018. Ahead of the election, Mr Ferriani shared his plans for the future of GAISF and underlined his commitment to bringing the global sporting community closer together for the benefit of sport.

Mr Ferriani praised GAISF for its tireless efforts to promote sustainability in sport and stressed that he would use his role as a member of the IOC Commission on Sustainability and Legacy to build on this progress. As a member of the IOC Commission for Women in Sport, Mr Ferriani is committed to promoting equal opportunities for girls and women in the global sport community to participate in and benefit from sport. In addition, Mr Ferriani pledged to use his experience as a member of the IOC Commission on Athletes' Entourage to introduce new initiatives that directly affect and benefit athletes.
